Both cotton and linen are made from plant fibres. When laundered for the first time 100% cotton will typically shrink by 8-10%, with negligible shrinkage happening on further washing. 100% cotton percale fabrics shrink less due to them being more densely woven with higher thread counts
It is recommended that all bed linen is laundered prior to using, as usually the bed linen comes directly from the production at the manufacturers so for cleanliness, washing should be carried out
